Job Description

Job Title: Professor - Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB-GYN)

Position Overview

The Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology provides senior academic leadership, high-quality medical education, and expert clinical care. This role involves training the next generation of medical professionals (undergraduates, postgraduates, and residents) while managing complex clinical cases, overseeing departmental administration, and spearheading clinical research or publications.

Key Responsibilities

1. Academic & Teaching Leadership

  • Deliver core lectures, clinical demonstrations, and advanced workshops on obstetrics, gynecology, maternal-fetal medicine, and reproductive health.

  • Mentor, supervise, and assess undergraduate (MBBS) students, postgraduate (MD/MS/DNB) residents, and fellows.

  • Guide postgraduate students in their thesis preparation, clinical case presentations, and research projects.

  • Lead curriculum development, lesson planning, and internal assessment/examination strategies in compliance with medical regulatory body standards.

2. Clinical & Patient Care

  • Provide expert outpatient (OPD) and inpatient (IPD) care, running high-risk pregnancy, antenatal/postnatal, and specialized gynecology clinics.

  • Supervise and manage critical labor room operations, emergency obstetric care, and complex deliveries.

  • Perform and train junior doctors in major and minor gynecological surgeries, laparoscopic procedures, and open surgeries.

  • Participate in the department’s rotational night and weekend on-call schedules.

3. Research & Publications

  • Spearhead and publish high-quality clinical research, case studies, and papers in peer-reviewed, indexed medical journals.

  • Represent the institution by presenting research findings at national and international medical conferences and CMEs (Continuing Medical Education).

  • Foster a culture of evidence-based clinical practices and quality initiatives within the department.

4. Administrative Duties

  • Assist the Head of Department (HOD) in daily administrative operations, resource allocation, and quality assurance protocols.

  • Oversee compliance with national medical council training guidelines, hospital accreditation systems, and biosafety/infection control protocols.

  • Serve on institutional, hospital, and ethical committees as required.

Key Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: MD, MS, or DNB in Obstetrics & Gynecology from an accredited and recognized medical institution. A basic medical degree (MBBS) is required.

  • Experience: Must meet the minimum teaching experience requirements specified by the prevailing national medical council guidelines for the rank of Professor (typically requiring a designated number of years as an Associate Professor with a verified tracking of research publications).

  • Licensure: Valid and current medical council registration with eligibility for clinical practice privileges.

  • Surgical Skill Set: Proven mastery in managing complex obstetric emergencies, high-risk labor management, and advanced gynecological surgeries.
