The Associate Professor of Anatomy is a core mid-level academic faculty member responsible for imparting theoretical, practical, and clinical anatomy knowledge to undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MD/MS/M.Sc.) medical students. This role requires excellence in medical education delivery, cadaveric dissection, active research output, student mentorship, and strict adherence to regulatory standards (such as NMC guidelines).
Teaching & Learning:
Plan, prepare, and deliver lectures, tutorials, integrated seminars, and large/small group discussions for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Conduct hands-on practical classes, including cadaveric dissections, osteology sessions, histology slide viewings, and surface/radiological anatomy demonstrations.
Integrate clinical and applied anatomy concepts into basic science teaching to bridge pre-clinical and clinical years.
Research & Publications:
Conduct independent and collaborative biomedical research in human anatomy, morphological variations, or medical education.
Publish original research papers, reviews, or case series in peer-reviewed, indexed journals (Medline, PubMed, etc.) as mandated for career progression.
Present research findings at state, national, and international medical conferences.
Mentorship & Student Evaluation:
Act as an academic mentor/advisor to a cohort of undergraduate students.
Guide postgraduate students (MD/MS/M.Sc.) with thesis/dissertation planning, execution, and data analysis.
Set question papers, conduct formative and summative assessments, practical examinations, and objective structured clinical/practical examinations (OSCE/OSPE).
Administration & Compliance:
Assist the HOD in departmental curriculum planning, timetable management, and resource procurement (specimens, models, digital tools).
Participate actively in institutional committees (e.g., Medical Education Unit, Curriculum Committee, Anti-Ragging, or Research Ethics Committees).
Ensure full compliance with institutional policies, university statutes, and regulatory standards (NMC / NAAC / NIRF frameworks).
Academic Qualifications:
Medical Track: MBBS with a recognized postgraduate degree—MD/MS/DNB in Anatomy.
Non-Medical Track (as per applicable quotas): M.Sc. (Medical Anatomy) with a Ph.D. in Medical Anatomy.
Teaching & Research Experience:
Minimum required experience as an Assistant Professor in Anatomy in a permitted/recognized medical college for the duration stipulated by prevailing regulatory guidelines (typically 4 years post-PG, with a cumulative post-PG teaching experience requirement).
Required mandatory training certifications, such as the Basic Course in Medical Education Technology (BCME) and the Basic Course in Biomedical Research (BCBR).
Required number of published research papers as a primary/co-author in indexed journals.
Deep conceptual expertise in Gross Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, Embryology, and Histology.
Strong communication, presentation, and interactive lecturing skills.
Proficiency in modern pedagogical tools, digital dissection software, and medical education methodologies.
Strong ethical grounding in handling human biological specimens and cadaveric ethics.
