Job Overview

The Consultant – CVTS Surgeon is responsible for delivering specialized surgical care for disorders of the heart, lungs, mediastinum, and major blood vessels. This includes performing complex cardiac, thoracic, and vascular procedures, managing high-acuity CTICU patients, and leading a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal surgical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Surgical Interventions:

  • Adult Cardiac: Perform routine and complex procedures including CABG (on-pump/off-pump), valve repairs and replacements (Aortic/Mitral), and aortic aneurysm/dissection management.

  • Thoracic: Conduct procedures such as lobectomies, pneumonectomies, decortications, and excision of mediastinal tumors.

  • Vascular: Perform peripheral vascular surgeries, AV fistula creation, and emergency trauma repairs.

• Critical Care & Perioperative Management:

  • Oversee preoperative evaluation, risk stratification, and patient stabilization.

  • Manage post-operative care in the Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU), including hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, inotropic support, and handling post-op complications.

• Emergency & On-Call Services:

  • Provide round-the-clock emergency surgical coverage for acute cardiac emergencies, aortic dissections, or major chest trauma.

• Multidisciplinary Collaboration:

  • Coordinate with Interventional Cardiologists, Cardiac Anesthetists, Perfusionists, Intensivists, and nursing staff for integrated patient care.

• Academic & Departmental Leadership:

  • Supervise and mentor junior consultants, residents, surgical assistants, and nursing staff.

  • Participate in clinical audits, quality assurance programs, and institutional growth initiatives.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education:

  • MBBS from a recognized institute.

  • MS (General Surgery).

  • MCh / DNB in CVTS (Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery).

  • Valid registration with the State / National Medical Council.

• Experience:

  • 0–3+ years post-MCh/DNB for Junior/Associate Consultant roles.
