Job Title: Consultant - General Surgery

Job Purpose

To provide expert surgical care through accurate diagnosis, elective and emergency operative interventions, and comprehensive pre- and post-operative medical management to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Clinical Assessment & Diagnosis: Conduct thorough patient evaluations, interpret diagnostic tests (such as CT scans, ultrasounds, and lab work), and determine the necessity of surgical intervention.

• Surgical Procedures: Perform a wide range of elective and emergency general surgical procedures. This commonly includes:

  • Abdominal surgery: Appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernia repairs, and bowel resections.

  • Gastrointestinal surgery: Procedures involving the stomach, small intestine, and colon.

  • Endocrine & Breast surgery: Thyroidectomy, mastectomy, and lumpectomy.

  • Soft tissue & Skin: Excision of cysts, lipomas, and melanoma management.

• Minimally Invasive Surgery: Utilize laparoscopic techniques where appropriate to minimize recovery times and patient discomfort.

• Patient Care Management: Manage the complete continuum of care, including preoperative preparation, intraoperative safety, and postoperative recovery in the wards or ICU.

• Emergency & Trauma Response: Provide immediate, life-saving surgical care for trauma cases and acute abdominal emergencies during on-call rotations.

• Collaboration & Rounds: Work closely with anesthesiologists, radiologists, intensivists, and nursing staff. Lead daily ward rounds to monitor healing and manage complications.
