The Ophthalmologist is responsible for diagnosing, managing, and treating a comprehensive range of eye diseases, vision disorders, and visual system injuries. This clinical role involves performing specialized diagnostic assessments, prescribing corrective interventions, managing chronic ocular conditions, and performing both minor and major ophthalmic surgeries to preserve or restore patient vision.
Clinical Consultation & Assessment: Conduct comprehensive eye examinations to assess visual acuity, evaluate ocular health, and diagnose disorders such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.
Surgical Intervention: Perform micro-surgical procedures, including cataract surgeries (such as phacoemulsification), refractive surgeries, glaucoma treatments, and emergency ocular trauma repairs.
Medical Management: Formulate, prescribe, and monitor medical treatment regimens, including topical medications, systemic drugs, and non-surgical therapies for acute and chronic eye conditions.
Refractive Care: Evaluate patients for refractive errors and prescribe appropriate corrective lenses, contact lenses, or evaluate candidates for laser vision correction.
Emergency & Collaborative Care: Provide urgent care for acute ocular trauma, infections, or sudden vision loss, and coordinate with systemic medical specialists (such as endocrinologists or neurologists) for patients with complex systemic diseases.
Equipment Maintenance & Quality Compliance: Utilize and ensure the proper calibration of specialized diagnostic tools (e.g., OCT, slit lamps, tonometers) while adhering to strict healthcare safety, hygiene, and clinical quality standards.
Education:
MS / MD / DNB / DO in Ophthalmology from a recognized medical institution.
Valid registration with the Medical Council of India (MCI) / National Medical Commission (NMC) or relevant State Medical Council.
Experience: Open to varying levels (typically 1–3 years for consultant roles; freshers with strong surgical competencies in basic procedures like cataract surgery are highly valued).
