Medical Physicist

Key Responsibilities

• Equipment Commissioning & Calibration: Perform rigorous testing and calibration of medical imaging and radiotherapy equipment (Linear Accelerators, Brachytherapy, CT, MRI) to ensure they meet international safety and performance standards.

• Treatment Planning: Collaborate with Radiation Oncologists to design sophisticated, patient-specific treatment plans, calculating the precise dose of radiation required to target tumors while sparing healthy tissue.

• Quality Assurance (QA): Develop and implement comprehensive QA programs for all radiation-emitting equipment to ensure consistent and accurate delivery of prescribed doses.

• Radiation Safety & Protection: Serve as or work closely with the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO). Monitor radiation levels, manage shielding designs for new facilities, and ensure compliance with regulatory bodies (like the AERB in India).

• Technical Troubleshooting: Address complex technical issues related to image quality or beam delivery that exceed the scope of routine maintenance.

• Research & Education: Often involved in clinical research to improve imaging or treatment techniques and training medical staff on radiation physics.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: * A Master’s degree in Medical Physics or Physics (M.Sc. Physics) from a recognized university.

  • Completion of a mandatory Post-Graduate Diploma in Radiological Physics (Dip.RP) or an equivalent residency program.

• Certification: Must be certified/registered as a Medical Physicist or Radiological Safety Officer (RSO) by the relevant national authority.

• Experience: For senior hospital roles, 2–5 years of clinical experience in a radiotherapy or nuclear medicine department is standard.
