Job Description

Core Responsibilities

1. Clinical Masterclass & ICU Management

  • Advanced Resuscitation & Life Support: Direct the clinical management of critically ill patients presenting with multi-organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), severe sepsis, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), shock states, and acute toxicological emergencies.

  • Precision Procedural Supervision: Perform and teach high-risk bedside procedures, including ultrasound-guided central venous and arterial cannulation, percutaneous dilatational tracheostomies, chest tube insertions, and advanced airway management.

  • Technological Governance: Oversee and optimize advanced ICU modalities, including mechanical ventilation (protective lung strategies, advanced modes), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), point-of-care ultrasound/echocardiography (POCUS), and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO).

  • Antibiotic Stewardship & Infection Control: Lead the formulation and implementation of ICU-specific antibiotic policies and strict infection control protocols to mitigate ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) and central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI).

2. Academic Leadership & Fellowship Training

  • Super-Specialty Mentorship: Act as an accredited postgraduate and super-specialty guide for $DM$ or $DNB$ Critical Care Medicine fellows, supervising their clinical logbooks, bedside decision-making skills, and mandatory theses.

  • Curriculum Architecture: Design and execute the academic training roster, incorporating daily multidisciplinary bedside rounds, simulation-based crisis resource management (CRM) training, journal clubs, and morbidity/mortality review meets.

  • Examiner Duties: Serve as a designated internal or external examiner for university super-specialty board examinations ($DM/DNB$).

3. Clinical Research & Scientific Output

  • ICU Quality & Clinical Trials: Initiate and lead clinical research trials or epidemiological registries focused on critical care outcomes, sepsis management bundles, or ICU triage optimization.

  • Indexed Publishing: Maintain institutional academic metrics by routinely publishing original research, consensus guidelines, or meta-analyses in indexed, peer-reviewed medical journals (e.g., PubMed, Medline, Scopus) as first or corresponding author.

4. Administrative & Regulatory Governance

  • Interdepartmental Coordination: Function as the primary bridge between the ICU and other departments (e.g., Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Nephrology) to streamline rapid-response teams and internal code protocols.

  • Asset & Capacity Procurement: Oversee ICU bed allocation strategies, manage clinical duty rosters for junior faculty (Associate/Assistant Professors), and direct the budgeting and maintenance of advanced life-support equipment.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the ICU infrastructure, bed-to-nurse ratios, isolation facilities, and faculty-to-student ratios meet the explicit mandates of the National Medical Commission (NMC) or relevant national governing boards.
