Job Description

1. Clinical & Interventional Excellence

  • Advanced Diagnostics & Therapeutics: Perform and supervise high-risk endoscopic procedures including upper GI endoscopies, colonoscopies, ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography), and EUS (Endoscopic Ultrasound).

  • Tertiary Patient Care: Oversee the management of complex gastrointestinal, hepatic (liver), pancreatic, and biliary tract diseases in both the outpatient department and inpatient wards.

  • Emergency Cover: Provide leadership and decision-making for gastrointestinal emergencies, such as acute variceal bleeding, severe acute pancreatitis, and acute liver failure.

2. Academic Leadership & Teaching

  • Super-Specialty Mentorship: Act as a registered postgraduate/super-specialty guide for $DM$ or $DNB$ Gastroenterology residents.

  • Curriculum & Training: Design, implement, and update the academic curriculum, coordinating bedside clinical case discussions, journal clubs, mortality meets, and seminars.

  • Examiner Duties: Serve as an internal or external examiner for university super-specialty practical and theory examinations.

3. Research & Publications

  • Clinical Trials & Research: Lead independent clinical trials or institutional research projects aimed at advancing gastrointestinal medicine.

  • Scholarly Output: Meet institutional and regulatory publication metrics by regularly publishing original research, systematic reviews, or meta-analyses in high-impact, indexed journals (e.g., PubMed, Medline, Scopus).

4. Administration & Regulatory Compliance

  • Departmental Management: Oversee the department's day-to-day operations, including managing clinical rotas, budgeting for advanced medical equipment, and supervising junior faculty (Associate and Assistant Professors).

  • Compliance Verification: Ensure the department complies with National Medical Commission (NMC) or relevant national guidelines regarding bed strength, faculty-to-student ratios, infrastructure, and logbooks.

Minimum Qualifications & Eligibility Criteria

Criteria Standard Requirement
Basic Medical Degree MBBS from a recognized medical college.
Postgraduate Degree MD or DNB in General Medicine or Pediatrics.
Super-Specialty Degree DM or DNB in Gastroenterology / Medical Gastroenterology.
Teaching Experience Typically a minimum of 8 years of post-super-specialty teaching experience, including at least 3 standard years as an Associate Professor in an approved teaching institution.
